PBL kindness cards

PBL - Term 1

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about kindness and the big question was: How can we build community through our actions?

First, we explored some collaborative activities and discussed how we could include kindness and build a sense of community through our actions at camp. Next, we were organised into groups where we had to unpack the above question. In our groups we considered how we could spread community and kindness through our entire school community. We decided that we would offer something that was free and would make others happy.

We created an action plan also we made kindness cards. We were going to do a rubbish clean up for the whole school.

Reflection: 

For our final product our group we made kindness cards we were going to make a rubbish clean up but we thought people will not like it so we did kindness cards with lollies.

I contributed by I helped design the kindness cards and giving ideas to the group and stopped people being silly.

I think the PBL might impact on others by being kind and encouraging others to be kind.

What I learned about working with others was to share ideas to each other and if people agree than you can use it.

The Day Market Day Made Tumu 700$!!!

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about design and the big question was; How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product?

First we learned what STEAM stood for. 

S for Science

T for Technology

E for Engineering

A for the Arts

and M for Maths

Then we were given challenges. The first to make a chair using newspaper, string and straws that was able to hold a figure made out of multi-link blocks.

Then; make a table that was able to balance MnMs for the team. We were much better at the second challenge because I think the paper chair was easier than the paper table

In Literacy we learned to write up science experiments and to write a technology report using the design process of ask, imagine, plan, create, improve and share.

Our next step was to form teams and ask ourselves the big question again.

How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product? Our aim was to create enough products or experiences and sell it to raise money for charity.

My Steam Team made Bath Salts we made around 50 dollars 

Reflection 

My highlight from this PBL was I enjoyed the Market Day because we sold a load of bath salts we sold around 30 bath salts. We sold a lot of bath salts because we put the stand in the middle of the entry so a lot of people came.

Next time I would make more and make more than one poster and make it cheaper if people don't buy it.

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about cultural stories and the big question was;
What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?

First we brainstormed what culture is and came up with lots of ideas. ` Culture is were you come from and stories and religions
Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage. I wrote a post about my family and things we like to do.
In Literacy we read and discussed myths and legends from around the world then we concentrated on Maori legends.

We made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains. Some students wrote the script, some students took on the job of making all the artwork, some worked hard on organising the music and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and drama.

The Duel The Inventors Awaken

Grandad's Grandchildren were coming to his house as they came grandad told them a old story about how he was the best inventor in the world and there was someone who wanted to challenge him and they were duelling trying to out do each other.

Sometimes I do family sport with my mum's side of the family.
We do basketball, netball, soccer and volleyball. soccer is my favourite.
when we do family sport we do it at night time because if we did it at day we would
have to plan it because not that many people go there at night.
